Soulful Fitness | Meditation and Sleep - What I Learnt in India Can Be Applied at Soulful Fitness Lane Cove
On my latest trip to India last week, speaking as the keynote at an event, I learnt an important lesson and that is just how important meditation and sleep are to creating optimal mind power and to reduce anxiety. On the streets are hundreds of cars tooting and delivering a constant noise in this hustling city. Cities in India are busier than we could ever imagine compared to our local surroundings in Lane Cove, Hunters Hill, Chatswood and Greenwich.

Meditation and Sleep – What I Learnt in India Can Be Applied at Soulful Fitness Lane Cove

It literally took an hour to drive 6kms everywhere we went and it was so hectic I wondered how the drivers dealt with it. Instead of being on their phones or social media every minute they have spare time like we are in Australia, they sleep. The driver simply slept from venue to venue while he waited for us and was super calm when facing the strenuous journey of battling a left hand turn and navigating at times through 15+ cars. My Chinese colleagues did the same, telling me sleep is so important and they just slept in the car as we were held up in the traffic. Once we got to the venues, they were bustling with energy to chat and mingle.

Mindfulness and meditation is very common as well especially in the Asian and Indian communities. A simple 10 minutes each day to practise this has significant effects on regulating your breathing, reducing anxiety,  helping you improve the quality of sleep, promoting cell growth, and mood regulation. Better still spending time focusing on your present moment and allowing yourself to reconnect your head with your muscles, heart, lungs and body allowing your mind to relax but not drift away, increases willpower giving you the strength to say no to dessert at the next restaurant you visit, opting for your health and fitness goals instead.

Whilst I was in India I cut down the coffee, drank green tea instead, practised mediation, slept and was completely rested and without nerves for my 2 talks, I even had the best 2 nights sleep that I had had in many months. Better still after arriving home, no jet lag and I was bouncing around the studio the next day with energy. There is definately something to this!

Join us at Soulful Fitness for a yoga class which includes mediation at the end of the class to leave you feeling mentally refreshed. It’s like a mini reboot for your brain to allow it to be at it’s best at all times and not cluttered, run down, without willpower, preventing poor decisions and moods.
