22 Mar Which Yoga is Best at Soulful Fitness?
Increasing your heart rate, muscle strength, spine health and your body’s ability to get more oxygen and blood to the muscles is important. Yoga classes that includes stronger postures and more cardio vascular fitness movements are the Ashtanga and Vinyasa yoga classes. These classes have bigger movements and develop strength in the shoulders, legs and core, while lengthening the muscles, spine and back. The movements have fewer holding times and breaths between postures and a beautiful flow is created. They are a great choice for busy people needing to slow down that need a physical release before savasana (rest). Hatha yoga is a more medium paced yoga classes which has longer holds in between postures around 3-5 breaths, with less intense physical movements and more time to stretch as well as strengthen. This is a perfect entry levels for most people.
Mental fitness and slowing down helps relax the mind, slow thoughts, balances the brain, connects the neurotransmitters to the body, releases feel good hormones, gets the body out of fight and flight into the parasympathetic nervous system promoting rest and digest, flushes clean oxygenated blood to organs and stretches and releases fascia which promotes healing. Classes like this include Kundalini Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Yin Yoga and Slow Flow Yoga. Yin yoga in particular is very slow with holds of postures done for 3-8 minutes and many are done on the ground to allow you to dive down and work along the meridian lines and release muscle, fascia and mental tension.
If you have tried yoga and it wasn’t for you, it was probably the style that didn’t suit rather than yoga. Try a different class as there are so many different experiences that we know there is one that your mind, body and soul will enjoy.
